Guide wheel attachments, designed by Vallmar Engineering more than 5 years ago, position, rebuild and help transport machinery to repair old railroad tracks. This original assembly design has now been updated for use on industrial rescue vehicles and other equipment such as boom lifts, cranes, scissor lifts and telehandlers. Because it is powered by its own engine and has rotatable tires, this machinery becomes instantly rail-ready. Thus it is able to access rail emergencies and maintenance areas in a fraction of the time. 
Rail maintenance groups have long struggled with the challenges of efficiently repairing rail as they have been using the same technology since the 1940s. Dependence upon these outdated methods is costly as well as unreliable. Because any issue, whether it be an emergency situation or a routine maintenance issue, may require a custom-built equipment solution. Costs increase when the equipment itself needs to be amended or repaired. Until now, “access” to a problem rail site often meant: loading heavy machinery with a lift onto a flatbed train car, hauling it to the project area along with a crane, removing the equipment at the site … or working from a flatbed and working off the rails.Guide wheel assemblies allow vehicles and heavy equipment to reach problem areas right on the tracks. Guide wheels also automate the process of laying, measuring and adjusting rail widths, tasks formerly done by hand. The guide wheel assembly automatically lays and measures track through its automated guidance system, cutting costs and increasing profitability.
