Box Butler owner, Scott Sinclair, says that your dog’s move to your new apartment doesn’t have to be a nightmare, if you follow a few proven steps.
NEW YORK -

According to Sinclair, it is important that any New York City pet owners, planning a move, be sure to prep their dog in advance.
“Every dog owner knows that a dog listens to what its master has to say and reacts specifically to human emotion,” Sinclair explains. “If the owner is stressing out about the upcoming move, it makes sense that his or her dog will begin to display skittish or anxious behavior.”
Experts say that the best way to handle the situation is to keep emotions in check and spend some time getting the dog used to words like “move,” “new home,” and “packing.” Sinclair also suggests comforting the pooch as the packing stage begins, to prevent worry.
“If your dog has been crated, he or she probably feels a sense of comfort in their crated space,” says Sinclair. “Another good way to acclimate your dog to the upcoming move is to bring it to your new place a few times before your final move. Make sure to put some of the dog’s favorite toys in their crate for a sense of security.”
While visiting the new apartment, Sinclair says it is important to acquaint the animal to the sights, sounds, and scenery of the apartment and its surrounding neighborhood. By doing as much as possible before the move, Sinclair says your pet will have an easier time adjusting after the official move.
“It is also important that, as you pack and unpack the boxes associated with the move, you offer your dog a treat,” Sinclair says. “This will make the act of packing and unpacking less threatening and, with a treat in its mouth your dog may hardly notice what is going on around him.”
