On Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hammer Museum, a panel of experts will explore the complexities of this ongoing tragedy. Included will be UCLA professor of history James Gelvin, author of "The Arab Uprisings: What Everyone Needs to Know," and Nader Hashemi, the director of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Denver and author of "The Syria Dilemma." Also joining the panel will be Asli Bali, a professor at the UCLA School of Law, where she teaches courses on public international law, international human rights, and the laws of war; and Syrian-American activist Rafif Jouejati, the English-language spokesperson for the Syrian Local Coordination Committees, the umbrella group of the Syrian opposition.
