The Happy Plate Project Launches Kickstarter Campaign
AUSTIN, Texas -

Each half-hour episode of The Happy Plate Project, Host and Creator Catenya McHenry will tackle a recipe pulled from a cookbook, a current cooking show, magazines, online and family recipes passed down. Her three children have a hand in the madness too. They each pitch in, giving them a sense of ownership, in hopes they will eat all their food to make a happy plate.
“Growing up, I never learned to cook,” says McHenry. “Following a recipe with more than three steps gives me serious anxiety but I have to figure this out. I want my children to eat more nutritiously but my food knowledge and preparation is terrible.” She adds, “Our one year McDonald’s moratorium was a huge success so I’m determined to keep dodging fast-food drive-thru and try to make more nutritious meals for my children at home but I have no idea what I’m doing in the kitchen.”
“I’ve thrown lots of food in the trash because mine doesn’t look like the picture and it tastes even worse,” says McHenry. “Most of what I see on television is perfect meals and that’s not my reality at home. I wanted to take my television and on-air experience to create a series that families and other Moms and Dads could really connect with.”
Kickstarter contributions start at $20 in exchange for a one of kind heirloom apron made from vintage fabrics exclusive to one’s family. From a Grandmother’s pillowcases to old table linens, Irene+Erma Jean aprons on Etsy, are custom pieces sewn with love.
The Happy Plate Project is set to air in 2014.
